Building Community One Bowl of Soup at a Time

Bethany Lutheran Church is hosting a daily community meal of homemade soup and bread. The Soup for You! Cafe is serving Monday through Friday from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the church, 2511 East Franklin Avenue. All of the delicious soups are halal and vegetarian. There is no charge for the meal but “free will” donations will be accepted. This is not a soup kitchen, but rather an opportunity to bring people together. The idea is to encourage community building in the neighborhood by hosting these simple meals and encouraging people to come and connect with others from the community.

Franklin Avenue Photography Project

Susan Boecher, photography professor at Augsburg College, is currently teaching a black and white photography course and has two advanced students who would like to do a project on businesses along Franklin Avenue. The students are looking for interested businesses or organizations who would like to participate or offer insights and ideas. The plan is for their completed project to be exhibited at one or more locations on Franklin Avenue.

Please contact Susan Boecher by email with any ideas, comments or suggestions at boecher@augsburg.edu.

5th Annual Sweethearts & Spirits Fundraiser

Zipp’s Liquors presents the Fifth Annual Sweethearts and Spirits: Beer, Liquor and Wine tasting fundraiser on Saturday, February 28th from 6:30-9:00pm at the Minneapolis Eagles Club (2507 E 25th St).

Enjoy samples of beer, wine and liquor.  Eat delightful treats from local businesses and partake in Zipp’s now famous silent auction.  Stay for the after party where a keg of something special will be tapped in the Eagle’s bar.

All proceeds benefit Seward Longfellow Restorative Justice Partnership, a program that works with the community and young offenders to repair harm by involving the victim, offender, and community in solutions that promote healing, accountability, and reconciliation.

Tickets available at Zipp’s or at the door for $15. This popular event may sell out – get your tickets soon!

Restaurants & Food Vendors: Ready for the Styrofoam Ban?

Updated packaging requirements take effect on April 22, 2015 in Minneapolis. All restaurants, delis, food trucks and other food vendors will be required to use recyclable or compostable plates, cups, clamshells, and other food service containers.

Get a jump on what you need to know at the Minneapolis Packaging Fair for Food Businesses. Meet with Food packaging vendors and suppliers to learn about containers and packaging that meets the new rules. There will also be information on Hennepin County grants to help pay for costs of switching to reusable or compostable packaging.
