“I’ve been an active member of the SCCA because I like to be involved and know what’s going on with neighborhood businesses.”

February Business Buzz

SCCA has been hard at work identifying the best energy programs for our members over the last several months. The culmination of this work so far is this round of Made in Minnesota solar rebates, due February 28th. So far, we know that Welna II Hardware, Birchwood Cafe, 2111 East Franklin (Shega Foods, Verdant Tea and Rebecca’s Bakery), Shabelle Grocery & Deli, and Franklin East (ArtiCulture, Seward Redesign, Steady Tattoo, Jim’s Barber Shop, etc) will definitely be putting in applications for this lottery. There may be a few others as well. There is still a little bit of time if you’re interested in the opportunity yourself – contact us at info@sewardbusiness.org for info. We can’t wait to feature these projects once they start being installed and share lessons learned.

The Minneapolis Bike Coalition is starting to pin down the details of this year’s Bike Week – slated for May 4-11. There is a special event planned for May 10 that will promote biking to a local business. Sheldon Mains, director of SPOKES, will remain involved in the planning of the event, and is looking for SCCA to get involved. We can, as a group, promote “helmet discounts” to folks to who access your business via bike, etc, to piggy back on the advertising that will be done for Bike Week as a whole. Let us know if you have any creative ideas about how to draw more cyclists to Seward!

The February SNG Development Committee meeting is this Tuesday, February 11, at 7:00pm at the Matthews Park Building. One item on the agenda is the new laundromat moving into the former Filmzilla. If you want to find out more about their plans, please stop by!
