New Bakery Now Open in Seward

Seward welcomes new business, Rebecca’s Bakery to the neighborhood.  A popular vendor at the Midtown Farmer’s Market for the past three years, owner Teshome “Tesh” Belayneh and his wife Assegedech “Asse” are delighted to bring their, “simply delicious, low sugar, no preservative, Italian  pastries” to the  Seward community.

Rebecca’s Bakery – named after the couple’s ten year old daughter, is a family-run business with Asse in charge of the baking and Tesh supervising the running and implementation of the business.

The bakery features a small coffee shop and a delectable assortment of Italian pastries, breads and other baked goods. They also offer catering and plan on selling their products to other restaurants and local grocery stores.

The bakery’s menu reflects both the Belayneh’s Ethiopian roots where they’re originally from, but also their years spent in Italy as Tesh attended school and Asse crafted her skills in baking.  Their Ethiopian/Italian background is also on display in the baker as you can see sambusas – a traditional Ethiopian fried pastry with a savory filling, for sale next to crostata – an Italian baked tart.

Other standout items at Rebecca’s Bakery include the very popular zeppole – a nutella filled fried donut, Asse’s hand made fruit tarts, baklava and tiramisu.

The bakery, which had their grand opening on September 28th, is ready for your business. Open daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. they are located next door to Verdant Tea.
