JAZZ 88 KBEM Comes to Seward

On Friday, February 3, Jazz 88 KBEM did a live broadcast from the Birchwood Cafe. This was the first in a series of on-location broadcasts featuring Minneapolis neighborhoods. In January, the SCCA membership heard a presentation from 3rd Precinct Crime Prevention Specialist Shun Tillman and Crime Prevention Analyst Luther Krueger. The presenters discussed ways that businesses can improve their own safety, as well as contribute to the safety of the neighborhood. Welna II Hardware has been operating in the Seward area since 1998. Located at 22nd and Franklin, this building was the original home of the Seward Co-op. When the Co-op decided to expand and move locations, they asked local residents in a survey what type of business should replace the Co-op. Catching Up With the Seward Longfellow Restorative Justice Partnership

The Seward Longfellow Restorative Justice Partnership (SLRJP) brings a grassroots approach to solving issues of juvenile wrongdoings in the local community. By working with the Minneapolis Police Department and the Hennepin Co. Attorney’s office, the method of “diversion” is utilized, which allows youths to participate in a mediation process instead of going to court.
