About Blogging

*Peter Fleck, of PF Hyper, LLC recently gave a presentation earlier this spring to Soloprenuers. We asked him to write an article and share the information with the rest of the SCCA. Thanks Peter for sharing your wealth of knowledge ‘About Blogging’!

The bedrock of anyone’s online presence should be their own web site (not Facebook). Ideally, the site will have blogging capability to allow easy posting of what you are passionate about relating to your business. This is the best way to get search juice (search engine optimization or SEO).

SEO is based on quality content and on adding that content at regular intervals. Blogging is simply the easiest way to add content to a web site. (If you don’t like the term “blogging,” then call it a news feed.) Blogging will help in bringing visitors to your web site if you add posts on a regular basis.

How often should you post? At least once a month and once a week is ideal.

The next step is to hook the blog up to your social media. When you post to the blog, you share the link via Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, or whatever. This leads people back to your web site, increasing traffic to the site, and gaining you even more SEO.

Most free and low-cost  frameworks for building web sites have a blogging capability: WordPress, Drupal, Squarespace, Wix, and more. I like WordPress.com. It’s free and relatively easy to configure with lots of online tutorials. It also auto-publishes your blog post links to your social media which is a great timesaver.
