On Friday, February 3, Jazz 88 KBEM did a live broadcast from the Birchwood Cafe. This was the first in a series of on-location broadcasts featuring Minneapolis neighborhoods. Kevin Barnes, Underwriting Assistant at KBEM, is a resident of Seward and worked to promote our neighborhood as an ideal first location for the series. From 7:00 to 9:00 am, deejay Ed Jones interviewed Seward representatives, including SCCA member and Birchwood Café owner, Tracy Singleton. In her interview, Tracy told the history of the Birchwood building as a home to community oriented businesses, and talked about the growing emphasis in the neighborhood on sustainable foods.
